OTET 2024 Eligibility

ODISHA TEACHER ELIGIBILITY TEST (OTET) – 2024

  1. Applicability
    According to Resolution No. 14302/SME, Bhubaneswar, dated 04/06/2012, and Corrigendum No.- SME-EL2-EL2-0063-2018-23082/SME, Bhubaneswar, dated 22/10/2018, and Govt of Odisha, S & ME Department Resolution No-14339/SME, dated 09/06/2023, OTET applies to all candidates with the required academic and training qualifications with the necessary percentage of marks. It also applies to those in the final year of teacher training courses before the advertisement date for OTET, who aspire to teach Classes I to VIII in State Government schools, private aided schools, and private unaided schools in Odisha. Candidates aiming for employment in private unaided schools can also opt to appear for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) conducted by the Central Government through CBSE. Additionally, candidates who qualify in OTET can reappear for improvement.
  2. Eligibility
    • Category A
      Individuals with the following qualifications are eligible to appear in OTET:

      • Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (CT or D.El.Ed.).
      • Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (or equivalent), as per NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations, 2002.
      • Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
      • Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
      • Graduation and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (or equivalent).
      • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).
      • Post-Graduation with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade and a 3-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.
        • Candidates with a Bachelor of Education from any NCTE Recognized Institution will be considered for appointment as a teacher for classes I to V, provided they complete a six-month Bridge Course in Elementary Education recognized by the NCTE within two years of their appointment as a primary teacher.
    • Category B
      • Graduation and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (or equivalent).
      • At least 50% marks in either Graduation or Post-Graduation and B.Ed.
      • Graduation with at least 45% marks and a 1-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) as per NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations.
      • Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
      • Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 4-year B.A./B.Sc. Ed or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.
      • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).
      • Post-Graduation with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade and a 3-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.
        • A 5% relaxation in minimum qualifying marks in Higher Secondary or Graduation level will be provided to SC, ST, SEBC, & PWD candidates.
        • Candidates meeting the minimum qualifying marks at the time of admission in teacher education courses are also eligible to appear in OTET.
    • Additional Eligibility
      • Persons with D.Ed. (Special Education) or B.Ed. (Special Education) qualification must undergo a 6-month Special Programme in Elementary Education recognized by NCTE after appointment.
      • Candidates with or pursuing final year teacher education courses (recognized by NCTE or RCI) are eligible to appear in the respective category.
      • Persons declared eligible by the State Government/NCTE/Government of India.
      • Eligibility for examination papers for persons under Para-2 (III) will be notified by the Government after their eligibility is declared.
  3. Examination Paper
    • There will be two papers in the OTET: Paper-I and Paper-II.
    • The total duration of each paper is 2 hours and 30 minutes.
    • All questions will be Multiple Choice Questions, each carrying one mark, with four options. The questions will assess the candidate’s ability to analyze, interpret, and apply the subject matter.
    • The question papers in non-language subjects will be bilingual (Odia and English).
    • The following languages will be offered in Language-I: Odia, Hindi, Telugu, Urdu, Bengali. Candidates must choose one language for the Language-I subject.
    • Language-II will be English for all candidates.
    • There will be no negative marking.
  4. Qualifying Marks for OTET Examination
    The minimum qualifying mark in each paper is 60%. Candidates scoring 60% or above will be considered OTET pass. For SC, ST, PH, OBC/SEBC candidates, the minimum pass mark is 50%.
  5. Examination Center

    • Candidates applying for Paper-I only should log in under “Paper-I only.”
    • Candidates applying for Paper-II only should log in under “Paper-II only.”
    • Candidates applying for both papers should log in under “both papers” and will be assigned a single examination center.
    • Candidates applying for Paper-I and Paper-II separately will not be assigned the same center.
